Nails are a specialized form of skin. They provide 10 (or 20) little places that you can decorate. But more than that, they protect your sensitive fingers and toes, and they help you pick up small things, scratch itches, and hold on to or manipulate objects. You can also abuse them by biting, peeling, and picking at them.

Your nails provide important clues to your overall health. Broken, discolored, or misshapen nails can indicate nutritional deficiencies, infections, or skin conditions. Good nail care keeps your hands and feet looking nice and is part of a general program of good health habits.

Basic tips to care for your nails include:

 1. If you have an old nail polish on your nail, remove it as quickly as you can! Also, try using a non-acetone remover to limit the damage to your nails.
2. Attack of the glitter – Removing those stubborn, but gorgeous, sparkles can be hard work. So next time, try removing them by placing cotton pads soaked in nail polish remover over your nails, then wrap them in tinfoil for five minutes.
3. Soakable stains – Whiten your nails by soaking them in a mixture of hot water, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda. You won’t believe the results!
4. Where are my clippers? – Make sure you have a pair of nail clippers to hand when cutting down your nails. It’s a lot better in the long run.
5. It’s very important to find the right nail file for you. Buy a softer nail file.
6. Cuticle care – Why not try some cuticle cream? Or try some cuticle eliminator.
7. Damage repair – Instead of ripping off damaged or broken nails, just apply a good and reliable nail glue to the inside of your nail.
8. Change shape – From time to time change your nail shape. There are so many interesting nail shapes.
9. Exfoliate – Exfoliate your hands at least once a week to get rid of the dead skin. Your hands will love you for it!
10. Moisturize me! – Moisturizing is essential to keep your hands nice and soft. So make sure you moisturize your hands.
11. Spray – Put some rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle and give your nails a little spray. This step will remove any oil left on nails from moisturising.
12. It’s all about the base – Protect your nails from harsh/ dark colored nail polishes.
13. Nail polish thinner – Add some nail polish thinner to the varnish, this will make it a lot easier to use.
14. Double up – Avoid a thin layer of varnish, double up!
15. Paint for perfection – Simply dip a fine art brush in nail varnish remover and apply on the problem area.
16. Top coat –  This helps protect the nail varnish and gives it a cleaner look.
17. Quick dry – To avoid an eternity of waiting just dip your nails in a bowl of ice water for about a minute to achieve quick drying time!

18. Moisturise again! – It’s important to always do it whenever you can, especially after painting your nails to give your fingers and hands a healthy look.

19. Touch up – Prolong the life of your nail polish by touching up your nails with the same nail varnish. It only takes ten minutes and it looks great!
20. Don’t pick! – It not only looks terrible, but it’s actually damaging your nail. So stop it!
