Before you head for the hills, know that applying fake eyelashes is way easier than you think . Follow these pro steps, and with a little practice, you’ll be able to brighten your eyes in no time—and add some drama to your look for a night out.

What You Need

  • Mascara
  • Lash glue
  • Tweezers
  • False lashes
  • Liquid eyeliner
  • Black eyeliner

Follow These Steps

  1. Apply black eyeliner. In the video, the makeup artist is using an angled brush to smudge on powder eyeshadow, but a regular eyeliner (gel or pencil) works just fine.
  2. Measure the false eyelashes. Take the strip out of its packaging and hold it up to your lashes. We like Sephora Collection Astonish Lash Trio ($25 for three,sephora.com), which comes with glue.
  3. If the strip is too long, trim off any excess with small scissors to ensure a perfect fit.
  4. Apply lash glue to the strip. A good drugstore find: Duo Brush on Striplash Adhesive White/Clear ($6.50, walgreens.com).
  5. The most important step: Wait at least 20 seconds for the glue to get tacky before attaching it to your lashes. If you do it too quickly while the glue is still runny, it will slide off your eye.
  6. Once the glue is tacky, place the strip onto the base of your lashes, using tweezers (if you feel more comfortable using your fingers, go for it). If the placement needs tweaking, do so now. Hold the strip in place (using tweezers or your fingers) for a few seconds, gently pressing on the inner and outer corners.
  7. Wait for the glue to dry. Don’t worry if it looks white at first—it will dry clear.
