Vampires. Those folklore beings that are technically dead but stay alive by feeding on the blood of the living. Everyone used to be scared of them. Now everyone wants to date them. Is that why the vampy look is so popular these days?

Vampires will still remain some of my, and a lot of other people’s favorite mythical beings. They apparently inspire countless of people to base their new look on them. Which is how the ‘vamp’ term was born as an association to a dark, edgy look that oozes mystery.

Did you know that vampires in pop culture today have nothing to do with how the mythological vampires look? They wore shrouds and were often described as bloated and of ruddy or dark countenance. They were markedly different than today’s gaunt, pale vampire which dates from the early 19th century. Definitely different than Edward Cullen, for that matter.

Although vampiric entities have been recorded in most cultures, the term vampire was not popularized in the West until the early 18th century. This was after an influx of vampire superstition into Western Europe.

And honoring that desire to look vampy, cool, mysterious and even intimidating, NikkieTutorials created this look for all those of you who want to eerily walk into a party with all eyes on you. Besides, it’s a holiday makeup look.
