In excellent news for over-sleepers everywhere, 2017 is poised to be the year of natural-looking hair. “Fashion is all over the place right now but one thing in common is there are lots of prints and colors,” says Marie Robinson, owner of the Marie Robison salon in New York City. “Hair usually balances that by being more subdued, natural, and softer in both texture and color.” Similarly, Erica Liang, colorist at Frédéric Fekkai 5th Avenue, predicts plenty of dark (aka easy to maintain) shades of brown, and rooty blonde hues that are inherently low-maintenance. Here, plenty of inspiration for the hair appointment you’ll want to book in the New Year.
BRONDE
“Grown-in hair color [will be] a big trend,” says Nicole Tresch, colorist at Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. “This is super low-maintenance and falls into the category of ‘bronde,’ which works on most people.”
ULTRA-DARK BROWN
Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner gave even the most devoted blondes a reason to go dark in 2017.
LONG WITH BLUNT BANGS
Texture counts with this style. “It should have a natural quality,” says Robinson.
FULL CURLS
For the red carpet, celebrities favored a slightly brushed-out look that gives gorgeous volume.
MESSY MEDIUM-LENGTH
Shorter loose or natural waves will make their mark in 2017, according to Sun Ju Hirsch, stylist at Rita Hazan Salon in New York City.
DEEP SIDE PART
This works with any style, but Robinson sees the deep side part being particularly big paired with shorter lengths.
