If you often wear red lipstick, you know that there are never enough new shades of red lipstick to try. It’s a habit that ultimately leads to addiction. Red lipstick addicts have at least three reds in their bag at any one time.
Matte or glossy, deep or bright, a bolt of red lipstick can update your look instantly – and we all know this thing.
“There is a shade of red for every woman,” said Audrey Hepburn – and how right she was. Here are my 7 favourite reds for every skin type and across all budgets!
MAC – Ruby Woo
Ruby Woo is arguably the most famous red lipstick shade, a great lipstick extra matt, extra red and lasts the whole night long. Perfect for day or night, this fierce shade totally means business – and suits everyone – looks amazing on every skin tone.
Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani lipstick in 400
The Red and b. This timeless shade is so tied to the brand, it mirrors their red lipstick cases. Its creation myth is that Giorgio himself believed it was the “perfect” red, reproduced in the lab from a flawless red rose he had brought his chemists. I’ve never been one for rules, but 400 is the perfect universal red.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Underage Red
This high-pigment liquid lipstick imparts a smooth, matte finish that lasts. The texture of the liquid lipstick is lovely. It is soft and smooth and feels feathery light on the lips and it feels like that I have not put anything on my lips. The lipstick has a ultra-matte finish. It has no sheen or shimmer. The lipstick dries super quickly within a few seconds. The pigmentation of the lipstick is intense. The lipstick is insanely pigmented. So, it perfectly covers my pigmented lips in a single swipe. I totally recommend this product!
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice is a must have lipstick just because of its heritage. It’s gorgeous red shade, intense pigmentation, creamy texture and staying power just adds to the glamour. Highly highly recommended for every lipstick lover and especially the red shade fanatics!
Fire & Ice is a cool-toned brilliant red with strong coral pink undertones in flat crème finish free from shimmers or frost like other crème finish lipsticks. The colour stays intact for 6-7 hours and doesn’t move out around the lips. It stays well without any bleeding or smearing. You should try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice because is amazing!
Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 01
This lipstick is fantastic! It doesn’t fade even after 6-7 hours and it doesn’t transfer easily. Even after it fades away, it leaves behind a nice rosy tiny that I love! It’s simply gorgeous!
I love the fact that it smells like bubblegum – nothing overpowering but nice and subtle.
Very easy to apply and for my lips, I find that it has just the right amount of creaminess and I can apply it very easily.
Gives a classy matte finish that looks gorgeous.
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl
Dragon Girl is a bright, cherry red. It’s a cool-toned red with noticeable pink in it. It’s a very vibrant colour. I apply a moderate amount by touching the pencil to my lips, then blend it out using my ring finger. This has a smooth, gliding texture and it doesn’t feel dry for a matte. It glides easily on the lips and doesn’t pull on them. It’s not at all like a traditional lip liner/pencil which can feel hard or dry.
Nars Audacious Lipstick in Shirley
This lipstick from Nars looks particularly good on those with brown or auburn hair. The formula is thick and slightly glossy, meaning that while it doesn’t set and dry out, it does need reapplying every four hours. The shade is remarkably vibrant and long-lasting considering how light and hydrating it feels to apply.
Red lipstick is one of the only beauty staples that never ever go off trend. Finding the perfect shade of red lipstick can be a very frustrating task, but not impossible. Not all reds are universally flattering and the range of finishes can be overwhelming.
I hope you like my suggestions and if you know other gorgeous red lipsticks, please let me know.
