1. Double reverse French braid

Rachel McAdams‘ double reverse French braid with flowers is romantic and pretty. Reverse French braids take some practise, but to recreate this look at home you need to create two sections at the front, and pin the back into a bun. Separate the top section into three even pieces. Cross the right piece under the centre piece. Then cross the left piece under the centre piece. Continue until the end of the hair then tie back into the bun.

2. Pull back bun

There are certain occasions when you need to have your hair off your face. Windy days, unruly hair and active events are all perfect examples. While you may not want to pull your hair back as severely as Emmy Rossum, the twisted bun is a great alternative to the pony. For a sleek look like Emmy apply some gel first to keep flyaways trapped. The put your hair in pony at the height you would like to wear your bun, low or high. Twist the hair and then secure in place with bobby pins. Give a light mist of hairspray to ensure it all stays in place.

3. Side-part tousled look

If you pull your hair back into a pony every day a quick and easy change is to try a side part with a few loose tendrils that you can curl with a hot iron like Amber Heard’s style. The tousled look around the face adds softness to the style and the side part gives a sophisticated edge. Start with clean, towel-dried hair. Add some mousse, and then blow-dry to add body. Take small sections of hair and curl with a curling wand or hot iron. Comb in a side part, and then loosely twist and pin hair back at the nape of the neck. Leave out a few curls around the face.

4. Loose bun

French actress Anna Mouglalis looks sexy and sophisticated with a loose bun with soft curls framing her face. To get the look, curl your hair with a curling wand way from the face. Lightly brush out the curl then spray your hair with hairspray. Pull hair into a low ponytail, then pin into a soft bun.

5. Retro styles

Catherine Zeta-Jones may have taken inspiration from Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s for this fabulous retro hairstyle. Start with clean dry hair. Section the hair from ear to ear, then divide the front section into two ponytails (front and back). Take the back ponytail and tease the hair. Then roll this ponytail towards the base and pin at the base of the curl. Fan out the top layer and pin into place. Then take the front section and divide into two sides. Comb one side of your hair with hairspray and wrap the hair around the bun and pin into place. Repeat with the other side.

6. Reverse French braid

Ashlee Simpson’s reverse French braid follows the same technique as used on Rachel McAdams’ hair but all the hair is used in the braid creating a super sleek look.

7. Relaxed Updo

Angelina Jolie’s relaxed updo is modern and elegant. To get the look, add some mousse to towel-dried hair, spray with a heat protect spray, then blowdry, combing your fingers through as you blowdry to add body. Lightly brush then loosely curl sections of hair with a hot iron. Tie the hair up into a high ponytail, then pin curls into the desired shape.

8. Milkmaid braid

The milkmaid braid as worn by Jennifer Lopez is a popular braid in Hollywood. The look is simple and feminine and easy to do. To create the look divide hair equally at the back, then braid each side. Take each braid and pull forward, above the ear and across the crown.

9. Sleek low bun

Gwyneth Paltrow’s sleek, low bun is really elegant. Start with clean hair and blow dry into shape. Do a side part with a tail comb and then use a hot iron to straighten hair. Brush the hair straight and sleek. Gather the hair at the nape of the neck and tie into a ponytail. Twist the ponytail all the way down and then pin into the desired shape.

10.Topknot

A topknot is equally as simple as a ponytail. Simply tie your hair up a la Jessica Alba and twist into a knot. Either do it loosely for a more relaxed style or twist tightly and slick down for a more polished effect.
