We all love to experiment with our hair and color it with different dyes. But sometimes we end up with unflattering or boring hair colors. So if you’re also stuck with a wrong hair color and wish to get rid of it, here are some tips and tricks for you.

Lemon Juice

This is one of the easiest ways to remove colour from your hair. Squeeze a lemon and collect the lemon juice in a bowl. For medium length hair, 2 lemons are enough. You can add more lemons as per your hair length and density. Now, apply the juice on your hair strands and let it dry. This is a slow method but is quite effective.

Use Detergents

Yes, you read it right. You need to use detergents that you use to wash your clothes on your hair. They contain 75% chemicals and are powerful enough to wash off your hair colour too. These chemicals are too harsh for your hair and will strip away essential oils and moisture. They will make your hair dry and coarse. So, don’t forget to moisturise your locks after this.

Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatment is a slow but beneficial treatment to remove your hair colour. Apply your favourite hot oil every night. Lightly warm the oil and apply it on the scalp and the hair length. Now, wrap your hair in a towel and wash it off with lukewarm water. Not only will it remove the colour from your hair but also will nourish and condition your hair.

Epsom Salt and Baking Soda Mixture

Take a bowl and add 2 drops each of Epsom salt and baking soda. Now, apply this paste on your hair strands. Wear a shower cap and leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes. Epsom salt is very strong and will remove your hair colour in no time. If your hair colour is too strong then it might take 2-3 washes to remove it.

Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Anti-dandruff shampoos are highly effective in removing pastels shades, green tones and blonde colours from your hair. You cannot achieve your original hair colour with just one wash. It might take 2-3 washes to eventually bring back your original hair colour, but this method won’t damage your hair much.

Swimming

Swimming can remove your hair colour gradually. When you swim in a chlorinated pool your hair colour will get affected. Regular exposure can actually lighten your hair colour and thus you will be amazed to see your original colour of the hair back.

Sun Exposure

Sun exposure is also equally helpful. Most unnatural colours are not photostable and thus they are removed with continuous sun exposure. This method is particularly effective for all types of hair colours but works best on vegetable based hair dyes.

Shaving Foam

Now you can use your partner’s shaving foam to rescue your hair colour. Mix some shaving foam with bicarb, water, any regular soap and a clarifying shampoo. You need to use this mixture 2-3 times, depending upon the intensity of the colour.

Vitamin C Treatment

Crush some vitamin C tablets, maximum three in one go, and dissolve them with your shampoo. And use that shampoo on your hair. Keep an old but clean towel handy as Vitamin C causes irritation to the skin.

Hair Bleaching

This is one of the most harmful methods of removing colour from your hair. So, try this only as the last resort. This is more effective in removing semi-permanent hair colours than permanent hair colour. Also, bleaching is more effective on warmer hair colours than cooler hair colours. Also, while bleaching, keep the amount of peroxide on the lower side. This will make the lightening process slower and will give you much more control.
