Whoopi Goldberg has stepped in after a real life Mean Girls moment saw Donald Trump’s daughter Tiffany, ridiculed for sitting solo at New York Fashion week.
A photo of the President’s youngest daughter with two empty seats on either side of her at the Phillipp Plein runway show, was circulated on Twitter earlier this week with two fashion editors pointing out that she was alone.
Fashionista.com editor Alyssa Vingan Klein wrote: “Seating sh–show at Philipp Plein because no editors want to sit near Tiffany Trump. SHOCKER.”
While fashion author Christina Binkley tweeted: “Nobody wants to sit next to Tiffany Trump at Philipp Plein, so they moved and the seats by her are empty.”
The latter has since clarified to Refinery29 that in reality, all wasn’t as her tweet suggested, and just minutes after she took the photo, the two seats were filled (and fought over!).
Christina had posted the snap to social media because two people had been beside Tiffany and decided to move seats because they felt uncomfortable – an interesting reflection of the tensions around the new President, she thought.
However, just moments later “several more people came and sat down; one of them was a famous creative director,” Christina said.
“As I was chatting with them, a Philipp Plein executive came over and asked those guys to move because Philipp’s sister and girlfriend wanted to sit there — it turned out those ended up being highly covetable seats!”
“It was absolutely a case of musical chairs. That photograph I tweeted lives on in history now, creating this urban legend that she was sitting there lonely, with empty seats beside her.”
Nevertheless, Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t having a bar of that tweet and made a public promise to sit next to Tiffany at the next runway show they’re at.
“You know what, Tiffany, I’m supposed to go to a couple more shows. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m coming to sit with you,” she said on The View.
“Because nobody’s talking politics. You’re looking at fashion. She doesn’t want to talk about her dad. She’s looking at the fashion.”
Tiffany was quick to accept the friend request and wrote on Twitter that she’d love to sit next to the talk show host.
